Second Period
Begin with Task 1. Upon completion go on to the next task. All regular classroom expectations are in place. No phones or headphones should be out unless indicated for an assignment.
Task 1:
1. Complete the “graph/gram” morpheme worksheet (we do this every Friday; should take about 7-8 minutes).
2. Students should open their English Binders and date their notes January 5, 2018; title the notes “Scottsboro Boys”; show the Google Slides presentation linked here:

3. Distribute the Scottsboro Boys Guiding Questions worksheet. Students will watch the Scottsboro Boys documentary (1 hr 25 minutes total). You probably will have to pause the documentary periodically so that they can answer the questions.

5. After the Scottsboro Boys, distribute the October and November issues of the Clarion Colonel. Most students have not read any of the school magazine, and the staff would like our thoughtful, detailed feedback for their main audience: their high school peers. Students should READ SILENTLY both issues, then complete the TWO Clarion Colonel News Magazine Activity sheets. This will take the entire period, and please announce that I will be GRADING the quality and thoughtfulness of their answers, and THEN, I will be handing them over to the Staff & Sponsors to read as well. It is VERY IMPORTANT that they represent themselves thoughtfully and professionally (complete sentences, careful spelling & grammar, excellent support for their answers, honest but kind).
